Amphawa floating market
Open Friday to Sunday from about 3pm to 9pm, with boats grilling seafood along the canal. Parking around the market is limited, so arriving before 3pm on Saturday makes life much easier.
Maeklong Railway Market
A market built on live railway tracks where vendors pull awnings back eight times a day as the train passes. Check the timetable to catch the moment. It is about 10 minutes from Amphawa.
Firefly boat tour
Boats leave the Amphawa piers around 8pm for roughly an hour. Fireflies show best on moonless nights and from the rainy season into early winter; a full moon dims the display considerably.
Wat Bang Kung
An old ordination hall completely wrapped in banyan roots, one of Samut Songkhram's most photographed sights, in Bang Khonthi district about 15 minutes from Amphawa.
Don Hoi Lot
A sandbar at the Mae Klong river mouth where razor clams live. At low tide you can walk out onto the bar, and there are seafood restaurants and dried seafood souvenirs along the shore.
King Rama II Memorial Park and Bang Kung camp
The memorial park displays traditional Thai houses and early Rattanakosin life, while Bang Kung was a Thonburi-era naval camp — a good pairing for history-minded travellers.

Frequently asked questions
How long is Bangkok to Amphawa?
Normally one and a half to two hours along Rama II Road. On Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, when everyone heads out of town, it can take two and a half to three hours, so leaving before 2pm on Friday is the smoothest option.
Can it be done as a day trip?
Yes if you go during the day, but Amphawa's charm is the evening market and the firefly boats after dark. To see both, stay a night. For a same-day return, choose a 10 to 12 hour charter so the van can wait until you head back late.
How is an overnight stay priced?
Two ways. Either pay outbound and return trips at ฿3,000 each plus ฿500 per night driver accommodation if the van stays, or have the van return to Bangkok and come back for you the next day with no accommodation charge. We will quote whichever is cheaper for you.
Can the van reach canalside homestays?
It depends on the property. Many Amphawa homestays are down narrow lanes or reached on foot from a shared car park. Send the accommodation name or a Google Maps pin before booking and we will tell you honestly whether we can reach the door.
Does ฿3,000 include the firefly boat?
No. The ฿3,000 covers the one-way vehicle charter with fuel, tolls, driver and water only. Firefly boats cost roughly ฿60 to ฿100 per person, paid at the pier or through your homestay, and accommodation and meals are also separate.
On a full-day charter, what if we go over the time or distance?
If the van and driver stay with your group all day (same-day return or sightseeing stops), packages start at 10 hours · 300 km (Commuter ฿6,450 / Alphard ฿15,350). Extra time is ฿300 per hour for the Commuter or ฿600 per hour for the Alphard, and extra distance is ฿25/km (Commuter) or ฿45/km (Alphard). Entrance tickets are extra, and if you add stops or change plans along the way, we always tell you the price difference first. One-way transfers (Commuter ฿3,000 / Alphard ฿8,000) are a fixed fare with no extra time or distance charges.
