Sukhothai Historical Park, central zone
The main zone containing Wat Mahathat, Wat Si Sawai and Wat Traphang Ngoen — the best preserved and most beautiful section. Entry is charged per zone; allow two to three hours and go early or late to avoid the heat.
Wat Si Chum
In the northern zone, housing the vast Phra Achana seated Buddha in a narrow mondop, its face glimpsed through a slot — Sukhothai's most famous image.
Wat Saphan Hin and the western zone
A hilltop temple reached by a 10 to 15 minute stone path, with broad views over the old city. Late afternoon is ideal for sunset.
Si Satchanalai Historical Park
Sukhothai's sister city about an hour away, with the exceptionally well-preserved Wat Chang Lom and Wat Chedi Chet Thaeo. Quieter and shadier than Sukhothai itself.
Sangkhalok kiln site
Ancient kilns that produced ceramics exported across the region in the Sukhothai era, with a museum explaining the process and displaying excavated pieces.
Ramkhamhaeng National Museum
Displays artefacts excavated across the Sukhothai area, including a replica of the famous stone inscription. Visiting before the park itself makes the ruins far easier to interpret.
A World Heritage site worth a full day
The historical park is divided into central, northern, southern and western zones and needs at least half a day, ideally a full one. Having the van makes moving between zones easy rather than cycling in the heat.

Frequently asked questions
How long is Bangkok to Sukhothai?
About six to seven hours for the 500 km via Nakhon Sawan and Phitsanulok, or up to eight on long weekends. Start early and plan two breaks along the way.
Does ฿8,000 include park entry?
No. The ฿8,000 is the one-way vehicle charter covering fuel, tolls, driver and water. Historical park entry is charged per zone and paid on site, and accommodation and meals are separate.
How many nights do we need?
Two is ideal: travel and see the central zone in the late afternoon on day one, cover all zones including Wat Si Chum and Wat Saphan Hin on day two, and stop at Si Satchanalai or Phitsanulok on the way home. One night works but is rushed.
Do we really need the van with us?
In Sukhothai, yes. The zones are kilometres apart and midday heat is intense. Bicycles are popular but hard going with children or older relatives, so an air-conditioned vehicle between zones makes the visit far more complete and comfortable.
Can we combine Sukhothai with Phitsanulok and Si Satchanalai?
Yes, all three are close: Phitsanulok is an hour away and Si Satchanalai another hour north. A daily charter with two or three nights works well — send the plan on LINE and we will sequence the route without backtracking.
